Woodchipper Training Course

This course is aimed at any person employed in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscaping and grounds maintenance who is or will be required to operate Woodchippers.

This is a 1 day Lantra Awards Integrated Training and Assessment (ITA) course and successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Training and an ID card.

Woodchipper Course Objectives

The candidate should be able to:

  1. Produce a site specific Risk Assessment for wood chipping operations
  2. State the principles of HSE legislation and safety guidelines for using a woodchipper
  3. Select the appropriate PPE and state the maintenance requirements
  4. Carry out the operator checks and identify the safety features of a woodchipper
  5. Carry out routine operator maintenance
  6. Inspect and identify defects on the blades
  7. Prepare machine prior to operation, start the machine, carry out safety checks and stop machine
  8. Prepare a work area and a range of materials for chipping and identify hazardous materials not to be chipped
  9. Use of approved techniques to chip woody brash and both short and long sections of timber safely and effectively
  10. State the procedure for removing blockages
  11. State the safety and environmental factors associated with the disposal of woodchips and the various end uses of woodchip
  12. Prepare machine for transport
